The Lost Connection
No one can expect you to be productive all the time. But often that is the case, where it isn’t possible to take a step back and refuel our mental health. Having a broken bone will let you rest longer than a burn-out. Why is that?
"The Lost Connection" is an animation that showcases this human behavior through interaction with machines. The central character, a switch, parallels the human experience where it becomes first strained and, without rest, inevitably breaks, as the user becomes more and more impatient and aggressive to make it work again.
Taking this as an example we should thrive to create environments and interactions that nurture mental health and take it just as importantly as a physical complaint.
FINAL ANIMATION
APPROACH
This animation is created with a mix of digital and hand animation, utilizing the creative workflow of 3D space with the freedom and personality of hand drawn expressions.
Different techniques were used to show the progression of abuse and the emotional journey of the main character. The linework shifting from clean straight lines to more loose sketches and framerate of the animation shifting being examples of this.
